The Plum Blossom Village of Xinyi
A plum tree stands, its branches like white jade,
Overlooking the village path by the stream-spanning bridge.
Unaware that proximity to water makes the blossoms bloom early,
One might mistake them for winter snow that has yet to melt.

One winter night in 1998, while I was sketching plum blossoms by the window at home, 
I heard my wife’s lovely voice asking if I wanted to visit Xinyi to view the plum 
blossoms during the New Year holiday; she wanted to make the arrangements. I readily 
agreed. Although the trip was still half a month away, this gave me time to shift my 
focus and prepare for photography. My large-format camera had been sitting idle for 
over two years, so I took the opportunity to retrieve it from the dry cabinet and get 
it ready.
The first step is to check the clarity and transparency of the lens elements. Most of 
them usually require cleaning, as they often have a hazy film or fingerprints on the 
surface. You should not wipe them directly with a dry cloth, as that will only make 
them dirtier; here are a few points to consider:

1. Buy a pack of facial cotton pads to use as cleaning cloths.
2. Buy a small empty spray bottle.
3. Buy a bottle of rubbing alcohol and dilute it with water in the small bottle; 
a ratio of 30% alcohol to 70% water is standard, though you can adjust this based on experience.
4. Before wiping the lens, lightly spray a small amount of the mixture onto the lens surface, 
then wipe it with a cotton pad; this prevents damage to the lens coating while ensuring effective 
cleaning. You can wipe it two or three times, depending on how dirty the lens is. Finally, take 
some time to familiarize yourself with the camera—practice firing the shutter, check the film 
advance mechanism, and so on—before buying some film and heading out to shoot.

Early on the morning of our plum blossom viewing trip, we traveled from Zhushan to Tongfu Township 
in Xinyi, where a friend was already waiting for us at the intersection. Without a guide, it would 
have been impossible to reach the plum blossom orchards hidden deep in the mountains; the journey 
took us over hills and across bridges, eventually leading onto a narrow, winding mountain path. 
As we drove slowly, the plum blossoms gradually came into view, lifting our spirits. We were 
accompanied by beautiful blossoms the rest of the way until we finally spotted the farmhouse—a truly 
picturesque scene. The brick-and-tile farmhouse was nestled amidst layers of plum trees, and as we 
stepped out of the car, a delightful fragrance greeted us—an absolute treat for the senses. The 
mountain scenery was breathtakingly beautiful; it was the kind of landscape that would inspire any 
painter to capture its charm on canvas.

As my wife and family began preparing for a picnic and tea, I shouldered my camera and headed up 
the hillside. The mountain plum blossoms, thriving in the crisp, natural chill, filled me with 
admiration for the vitality of plant life. After a refreshing walk that felt like stepping into 
a poetic landscape, I paused to reflect on the plum branches and blossoms before me, visualizing 
how they would translate into a picture—it was a scene so beautiful it seemed like a painting in 
the making. I set up my camera and began to frame the shot, carefully balancing the spacing and 
lengths of the branches while selecting the perfect placement for the blossoms. It was the peak 
of the flowering season; each lovely, beautiful bloom was truly captivating. The hillside, the 
plum trees, the distant mountains, and the sky combined to create a vast, open vista of plum 
blossoms in the wild—a composition that felt both serene and soothing. Enchanted by the stunning 
scenery of Xinyi’s "Plum Blossom Village," I captured the moment.
The local climate, sunlight, and moisture nurture these plum blossoms, evoking in me the feeling 
that living on this land fosters a healthy, long life—even up to a hundred years. I hope this 
image not only refreshes your spirit and brings to mind the intoxicating fragrance of plum blossoms 
but also fills your heart with a sense of boundless richness, freedom, and contentment.

信義梅鄉
一樹寒梅白玉條，回臨村路傍溪橋。
不知近水花先發，疑是經冬雪未消。
在1998年的冬天夜裡，我在家的窗前畫著梅，突然傳來美妙的聲音，是我太太在問我元旦的春假是否前往信義賞梅，她要安排。我當然是

答應了，雖還有半個月，但我剛好可以收心準備前往攝影，我的大相機也有二年多未使用了，趁這些日可從防潮箱內取出整理一下。
首先要檢查一下鏡頭的鏡片是否清晰與透明，大部分都是需要再清潔一下，因會有一層霧霧在上面或手紋，這時不可直接用乾布擦，

會越擦越髒，以下有幾點可參考：
1. 買女性臉部用的化妝棉來當布使用。
2. 買1罐小空瓶，有噴霧器的頭。
3. 買一瓶藥用酒精，到入小空瓶內與水稀釋，比例是酒精30%清水70%，可依經驗調整。
4.要擦鏡頭前請先少量噴一些已調好的水在鏡頭上，然後再用化妝棉 擦，這樣才不會傷鏡頭的鍍膜，清潔效果也很好，擦拭二至三次都可以，

可依程度而定。 再來相機就可趁這些日多熟習一下，快門多按個幾次，上片功能多 檢查一下性能等，然後再買些底片就可以出門拍照了。

賞梅的當天一早我們從竹山前往信義的同富鄉，在那裡的認識友人已在路口等我們了，
這趟路程如沒人帶路，可是無法進入山中的梅園，一路翻山越嶺又過橋而來到山間，接著又是羊腸小徑的路徑，讓我們感到青山幽靜的梅園之

旅，慢慢的行駛不一會兒梅花漸漸的出現，內心開始開心起來，接著一路都是美麗的梅花相伴，終於看到要抵達的農舍了，眼前真是意境優美

的畫面，磚瓦蓋的農舍被梅樹層層的圍著，下車時一股香氣撲鼻而來，哇！好香的香氣讓人的嗅覺達到最高享受，驚喜萬分的山間景色，如是

讓畫家來這兒也能是他們入畫的美景。

在太太與家人們開始準備野炊與泡茶之際，我便背著相機往山坡上走去，山間的梅花在寒冷自然的天候中生長著，讓我感到植物的生命力對梅

又愛又喜歡，走了一段心曠神怡的詩境，我休息了一下，對著眼前的梅枝與梅花更有感觸了，便把它對應到我相機內的畫面，好像我在畫枝點梅

可以入畫的美喔！便架起相機來，開始移動我的相機，當時我可以做到的是，讓畫面裡的梅枝疏密與長短作配置與選擇梅花的位置，這時正是花開

的時候，朵朵可愛又美麗，很讓人很心動，眼前的山坡與梅樹及遠山還有天空，呈現著梅花在自然山野中的遼闊視野，畫面也很安定又舒暢，真美

的信義梅鄉的景色，我很陶醉便按下了這張美景。
這裡的氣候，陽光，水氣，孕育著這裡的梅花生長，也讓我感到我們生活在這塊土地上是可以健康的百歲的延壽，希望這幅畫不但能讓你心清神怡，

還能有撲鼻而來的梅香香氣，感受到心靈無限的富有自在怡然自得。

信義の梅の里
寒梅の一樹、白玉の枝を連ね、村の道、渓流の橋のほとりに佇む。
水辺ゆえに花が早く咲いたとは知らず、冬を越した雪がまだ消え残っているのかと疑うほどだ。

1998年の冬のある夜、自宅の窓辺で梅の絵を描いていた時のことです。ふと耳に飛び込んできたのは、妻からの素敵な提案でした。正月の休暇に
信義（シンイー）へ梅を見に行かないか、というのです。もちろん私は快諾しました。まだ半月ほど先のことでしたが、撮影に向けて気持ちを整え、
準備を始めるにはちょうど良いタイミングでした。愛用の大型カメラも2年以上使っていなかったので、この機会に防湿庫から取り出し、手入れを
しておくことにしました。
まず、レンズのガラス面が澄んでいて透明かどうかを確認します。たいていは汚れや曇り、指紋などが付着しているため、清掃が必要になります。
その際、乾いた布で直接拭いてはいけません。かえって汚れを広げてしまうからです。以下に、いくつかの参考となるポイントを挙げます。

1. 女性用の化粧用コットンを拭き取り用として用意します。
2. スプレーノズル付きの小さな空きボトルを1本用意します。
3. 消毒用アルコールを購入し、ボトル内で水と希釈します。比率はアルコール30％・水70％が目安ですが、経験に合わせて調整可能です。
4. レンズを拭く際は、まず調合した液を少量レンズに吹き付けてからコットンで拭き取ります。こうすることでレンズのコーティングを
傷つけずに済み、洗浄効果も高まります。汚れの度合いに応じて2〜3回拭き取るとよいでしょう。あとは、この期間にカメラの操作に慣れて
おきましょう。シャッターを何度か切ったり、フィルムの巻き上げ機能などを確認したりしてから、フィルムを購入すれば、撮影に出かけられます。

梅見に出かけた日の朝、私たちは竹山から信義郷の同富へ向かいました。そこでは、現地の友人がすでに道端で私たちを待っていてくれました。
この道のりは、案内役がいなければ山中の梅園にたどり着くことはできません。山を越え、橋を渡って山間部に入り、さらに細い曲がりくねった道
を進んでいくと、静寂に包まれた美しい梅園の旅が始まりました。ゆっくりと車を走らせていると、やがて梅の花が姿を現し始め、心も弾んできます。
美しい梅の花に彩られた道をさらに進むと、ついに目的地である農家が見えてきました。目の前に広がるのは、実に風情ある光景でした。レンガ造りの
農家が幾重もの梅の木に囲まれており、車を降りると芳しい香りがふわりと漂ってきました。ああ、なんと素晴らしい香りでしょう。嗅覚が最高の
喜びを感じる瞬間です。驚きと感動に満ちた山間の景色は、画家が訪れればそのまま絵画の題材にしたくなるような、美しい風景でした。

妻や家族がピクニックやお茶の準備を始める中、私はカメラを背負って丘を登っていきました。厳しい自然環境の中で力強く咲く梅の花に、植物の
生命力を感じ、その魅力にすっかり心を奪われました。心洗われるような美しい風景の中を歩き、ふと立ち止まって目の前の梅の枝や花を眺めていると、
それらがまるで一枚の絵画のように感じられました。枝の配置や花のあしらいを構図の中でどう表現するかを考えながらカメラを構え、アングルを調整
しました。ちょうど満開の時期で、愛らしく美しい花々が心をときめかせてくれます。目の前の丘や梅の木、そして遠くの山々や空が織りなす、自然の中
に広がる雄大な梅の風景は、見る者に安らぎと心地よさを与えてくれます。「信義梅郷」のあまりの美しさに魅了され、その光景を一枚の写真に収めました。
この地の気候、陽光、そして湿り気が梅を育んでいるように、この土地で暮らす私たちもまた、健康で長生きできるような気がしてきます。この写真が、
見る人の心を清らかにし、梅の香りが漂ってくるような感覚や、心が豊かで自由、そして穏やかに満たされるようなひとときをもたらしてくれることを
願っています。
