A Soul-Stirring Image:The 4x5 Snowy Landscape
(A Brief Discussion on the Film)

This photograph of winter snow on Hehuan Mountain by photographer Chien-Chuan Lin
exemplifies the ultimate application of the Scheimpflug principle with a 4x5 large-format
camera; today, however, such film is no longer manufactured, and large-format cameras
have become a thing of the past.

Winter Snow on Hehuan Mountain – Photographs by Lin chien-chuan
This photograph was taken on Hehuan Mountain in Nantou County, Taiwan. The weather was
exceptionally clear, and the snow conditions were the best seen in years. While hiking
with my camera and tripod, I spotted a beautiful, heart-shaped pattern in the snow below
to the left. Realizing that such snow formations are fleeting, I was thrilled by the
opportunity and waited for the perfect moment to release the shutter.

Beyond the superb weather, the success of this image relied on several key factors: using
a top-tier German Rodenstock lens; employing a highly precise exposure technique; and
digitizing the film with a world-class scanner. Only through this combination could
the exquisitely clear and detailed image you see today be produced.
